Andy Roddick To Build International Tennis Center
ennis superstar Andy Roddick is planning a major project along the shores of Lake LBJ.

The Andy Roddick International Tennis Center is touted as a green and sustainable facility and is designed to serve everyone from underprivildged children to professional athletes.

Though 17 tennis courts are planned, the center won’t just be for tennis. Bike trails, a nature preserve and facilities for water sports are also in store.

During the summer, kids from all over the world will train, compete and go to camp there.

“Part of the instruction is what happens beyond the tennis court,” said John Arthur Martinez of the Marble Falls Community Tennis Association. “You can create a better tennis player by creating a better human being.”

The $8.2 million center in Cottonwood Shores is scheduled to open in early 2009.

Roddick overjoyed at Davis Cup triumph
Former US Open champion Andy Roddick has hailed the United States’ first Davis Cup victory in 12 years as one of the greatest moments of his career.

The world’s top-ranked doubles duo of Bob and Mike Bryan wrapped up the 3-0 victory over defending champions Russia on Saturday after Roddick and James Blake had won their singles rubbers a day earlier.

“It’s been a long road. To be here and bring the Cup back to the States is an amazing feeling,” said Roddick. “But more important, just to share the journey with these guys, it’s just been so much fun. For us to have our moment, I feel like we really do deserve it.”

Mardy Fish bringing tennis star Andy Roddick to Treasure Coast on Tuesday
Mardy Fish has made good friends with great tennis players.

For the second year in a row, the Vero Beach tennis community will welcome the top-ranked American men’s tennis player at Fish’s charity event. Last year, it was James Blake. This year, it’s Andy Roddick.

Roddick will play Fish, who grew up in Vero Beach, in an exhibition singles match Tuesday night at The Boulevard Village and Tennis Club. It is a part of Mardy’s Tennis and Jake’s Music Fest to benefit the Mardy Fish Foundation.
